LOVE
Tanzfabrik Berlin and Radialsystem have presented two artists to a broad audience on the stages of Radialsystem every spring since 2019. The collaboration aims to improve the labor and presentation conditions of dance professionals in Berlin beyond their individual institutional contexts. In addition to the visibility of this joint platform, an important moment of nexus between local and international artists and scenes is achieved. Both institutions provide equal support to the artists in the forms of co-production resources, rehearsal spaces and public relations work.
Third Skin – Performance by Ana Lessing Menjibar
„She is the daughter of two creatures that fought against silence. Against the silence that keeps the feelings inside like intestines. Against the silence that mutes the dead. But the womb is still fertile from which that silence crawled…“
The performance “Third Skin” (premiered in 2023) by German-Spanish choreographer and artist Ana Lessing Menjibar, which will be shown at Radialsystem at the beginning of March, is a poetic respond to the uncovering of her family history. It deals with the experiences of war and fascism, collective as well as individual wounds, and three generations of political resistance. In response to this exploration, the artist and her team devise the fiction of a chimaera in constant transformative movement between resistance and porousness.
In “Third Skin”, Ana Lessing Menjibar works with the (embodied) knowledge inherent in Flamenco, which understands the sharing of emotions as an empowerment of the body and a source of dialogue. In her specific, transdisciplinary style, she recombines these aspects with elements of visual art, contemporary dance and electronic music, resulting in the concept of an energetic cosmos made of bodies, sound, rhythm, language and sculptural objects in which the skin as a porous surface becomes a marker of time.
“Third Skin” will be presented at Radialsystem as part of the  cooperation between Tanzfabrik Berlin and Radialsystem. With the Radialsystem ♥ Tanzfabrik initiative, the two institutions have joined forces to specifically improve the presentation conditions for dance professionals in Berlin.

EARTH WORKS – Performance by Sergiu Matis
The score of the new performance by choreographer Sergiu Matis is composed of texts written by authors from around the globe about their personal experiences with our existentially threatened environment. These reflections, commissioned for “Earth Works”, are recited, translated and interpreted by five performers. Prompted by words and sentences, images, figures, choreographic spaces and atmospheres emerge through which the performers move: The text carries them through the choreography and the dancers, in turn, carry the words through the performance space. This interdependent movement gives the texts body and voice, oscillating between grief and hope, destruction and resilience. The performers are driven to act, to discover new pathways and give hope to a society that finds itself threatened by a sixth mass extinction event.
“Earth Works” is a continuation of Sergiu Matis’ long-standing artistic exploration of the climate and biodiversity crisis and the relationship between text and choreography.

The Infinite Gesture – Performance by Ixchel Mendoza Hernández
A journey into the realm of interconnectedness: The new performance “The Infinite Gesture” by Ixchel Mendoza Hernández, which premieres at Radialsystem in mid-December, explores the transformative power of touch, connection and empathy. From the sensitive gesture of touch grows a deeply intertwined choreographic landscape in which three performers encounter each other and pose questions about our social co-existence. In “The Infinite Gesture”, they investigate different perspectives on coming-into-connection: From skin-to-skin contact to symbolic, metaphysical and societal dimensions of being together. In this performance, Ixchel Mendoza Hernández makes tangible the potential of touch to shift power hierarchies, dependencies and care and seeks alternative narratives for this network of relationships.
For many years, Berlin-based choreographer and performer Mendoza Hernández has been exploring a phenomenon that she calls “Visual Ghost” – a continuously changing consciousness of perception and inner virtuality. In a world where visible and invisible, subjective and objective realities are closely interwoven, she investigates how the immaterial and the invisible can become “present” through physical experience. Using choreographic tools, she examines how we can reconstruct and reshape perceptual realities.
“The Infinite Gesture” will premiere at Radialsystem as part of the  cooperation between Tanzfabrik Berlin and Radialsystem. With the initiative “Radialsystem ♥ Tanzfabrik”, the two institutions are working together to improve the labor and presentation conditions of dance professionals in Berlin.

Milla Koistinen – Magenta Haze
In Milla Koistinen’s new production “Magenta Haze”, the performers engage in play with large, colourful objects, yielding a choreography of subtle tipping points between distance and proximity, solidarity and alienation, fragility and strength, and the individual and the group. Created by visual artist Sandra E. Blatterer, the inflated objects take on different forms, meanings, and associations as the performers explore their materiality, haptics, and sonic qualities. “Magenta Haze” is presented as part of the collaboration  between Tanzfabrik and Radialsystem presented in Radialsystem’s spaces. The initiative “Radialsystem ♥ Tanzfabrik” fosters cooperation between the two institutions specifically to improve the conditions of presentation by dancemakers.
With “Magenta Haze”, premiered at Dance House Helsinki on 27 October 2022, Koistinen explores group dynamics and individual behaviour within a collective, as well as communal ecstasy and collective joy. Inspired by the idea that ecstasy is a state in which we step out of ourselves and move to a “different” place, Koistinen invites the audience to move around the space and observe the choreography.
